MENHIR / Anta 3 do Alcogulo, Castelo de Vide, Portugal

Implanted in an area of pastures and oaks situated on the left bank of the Ribera de Nisa, the "Anta of Alcogulo III" is very degraded, which implied the decharacterization of the imposing vision that would have characterized it at the time of its construction. Still excavated in the second half of the 19th century by the Portuguese geologist F. Pereira da Costa (1809-1889), it is possible that this intervention has in some way aggravated the state of conservation of this megalithic monument.

The granite steles of this Neo-Chalcolithic monument lie on the inside and outside of the sepulchral chamber, some of which are quite fractured.
Attaining a maximum height varying between three and three and a half meters, and an average thickness of thirty centimeters, these elements should have been seven at their origin.Although no vestiges have been recorded so far as to point to the existence of a corridor, some evidence of the early mamoa - or tumulus - remains.

[AMartins]
